Holocaust Novel Study
In English Language Arts, we have begun a novel study centered around the theme of the Holocaust. Each student will be responsible for reading one of the novels, participating in discussions and completing written journal responses.
More information and a calendar of due dates will be sent home soon.

Karaté des verbes
In grade 6, students should be comfortable conjugating different types of verbs. In an effort to practice this skill, we have begun Verb Karate!
Each student has a ninja animal on the bulletin board. To pass a level (and obtain that belt), students have to practice conjugating a verb, write a pre-test and then successfully complete a test with 80% or better accuracy.
There are ten belts, from grey to black. Hopefully all students will master their verbs and achieve the rank of Black Belt!

New for 2015
There are two new additions to room 19 for 2015.
The first is the Prison. If a student wants to borrow a pencil, they have to put one of their shoes in the prison. When they return the pencil, they can retrieve their shoe from the prison. Hopefully students will remember to bring their own pencils to class and won't have to surrender their shoe to prison!
The second is the Commonality Chart.
Students meet in partners and find something they have in common. Some recent examples: "we both have a brother with brown eyes" and "we both have a birthday in May". These findings are recorded on the Commonality Chart. Hopefully by the end of the year, each student would have found something in common with each member of the class!
